What health precautions do I need to take?

There are a few basic health matters that you should be informed of:

  1. Malaria
Ghana like all other tropical areas has incidents of Malaria. Relative to other tropical environments the chances of contracting malaria are low. Nevertheless, we encourage you to taking preventative steps. Therefore, purchasing some Malaria tablets is a smart investment.

Additionally, the best method to avoid contracting malaria is to prevent mosquito bites. , so apply mosquito repellents generously. We do suggest you contact your own doctor prior to leaving for your African holiday, to advise him/her of where you will be travelling. Nevertheless, it is important to note that catching Malaria is not a serious problem if you have taken the basic precautions. If diagnosed early the illness can be effectively dealt with.
  2. Water
It is extremely important that you drink plenty of water especially if you travel to Ghana during the warmer months. Dehydration is possibly the single biggest cause of ill health in Ghana. We encourage our guests to drink at least 2 to 3 litres of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration. This excludes tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages, which act as diuretics and actually contribute to dehydration. Additionally, bottled and mineral water are readily available at the hotel and throughout the country for an inexpensive price.

Given that taxi fare is inexpensive and that all our tours include tour guides and drivers you generally won’t need to drive. Nevertheless, we can arrange to rent a car for you. Our associate Car rental compaines will accept your driver's license.
